August 1st?

Posted by on August 1, 2012

August 1st already? Where did the time go?

We’ve been busy since we’ve returned to Bohemia Bay. We’ve seen our friends, visited family, and accomplished a lot on the boat. A small sampling of the items we’ve been working on:

  • Sabrina has almost completed sewing us an awesome new bimini.
It goes around the bases of the solar panels, and looks great.
  • We’ve upgraded our chain to 150′ of 3/8″ BBB, preparing for the Caribbean.
We also made some upgrades to our bow rollers and spare anchor rode.
  • We cleaned the bilge and now we’re prepared to pack it with food again.
  • We cleaned out the fuel tank to keep our fuel system clean.
  • We’ve re-provisioned using our car and our local stores.
  • We replaced our failed batteries which were covered under warranty. (Yay!)
  • I’ve been working with our solar panel company to replace our panel which is covered by warranty. (Yay!)
  • We’ve bought some stuff online that we decided we wanted before we headed out again.
(Including Sabrina’s new bike! Sadly, this one was not $15.)
  • We picked up some warmer clothes from our storage unit for the trip north, and we made sure the heater works.
  • We unloaded a lot of things that we’ve decided we don’t need, and grabbed some stuff we did.
  • I’ve been working on tuning up the Westerbeke and replacing the PTO gear.
  • And lastly, I’ve been battling spiders and the effects of 6 months in salt water with no freshwater.

But it hasn’t been all work, we’ve had a chance to go wakeboarding, watch the Olympics, catch some blue crabs, and most importantly, catch up with our friends.

We’ll be heading north really soon, and at that point we’ll be blogging regularly so please continue to follow along.ย Don’t forget that you can check out our Spot page to see where we are currently. Stay tuned!

    • Sabrina

We have been busy, but we are hoping to get a lot of things done while we have a car and all that good stuff so we can just enjoy our time up north!

  2. Candy

And autocorrect got me again–you are overcoming difficulties!

Just “reading” about all your improvements and work on the boat wore me out! You guys are amazing! This is an experience that you will carry throughout your whole life – great stories to tell your children and grandchildren! Livin’ large! We continue to pray for your safety. When do you expect to be back home for good? Love, Aunt Debbie

    • Sabrina

Thanks for your comments, Aunt Debbie! Hope you are enjoying your summer! We’ll probably finish up the cruise sometime next spring/summer.

    Hey guys!
I had read that Sabrina was almost finished sewing “an awesome new bikini”, and then I realized it was bimini, haha! So how was that job? I’m considering doing our canvas myself too. Good luck with the rest of the prep work for the northbound journey – and keep in touch, even if you don’t make it as far as we want you to!

Jess, you cracked us up! To be honest the bimini was a little more difficult that I expected and took a LOT longer than I estimated, (should have just stuck with a bikini ๐Ÿ˜‰ but in the end, we are pretty happy with it. The machine makes a huge difference – I wouldn’t attempt it with a home machine. I just posted some pictures and inserted a special pun in the latest post, just for you, Jess! Great to hear from you guys!

Hey it’s Fred and Heather aboard sv Flying Scott II and wanted say congratulation on all the improvements. I will sentiently have to agree that a boat stays cleaner in the clear Abaco water verses our hazy Charleston water. Safe travels up North, and we loved the Billy Joel song as Storm Front was part of our regular songs in Bahamas! Fair seas and following winds.

Fred, great to hear from you! Can you email me your blog address? We lost it somewhere along the way, and we wanted to see how the rest of your trip went. Thanks for the kind words, we might be swinging through Charleston at some point this winter, if you have any tips or want to sail around, let us know!
