Monday we said goodbye to my parents and drove back to Belhaven, NC,
arriving late Monday night. Tuesday morning Sabrina drove our rental car two
hours each way to the West Marine in Morehead City and bought the two new
engine control cables for the boat. (She had to drive to that store because
West Marine messed up our order, and the cables wouldn’t have arrived into
Washington, NC until Friday, even though I explained to the guy that I
needed them Tuesday, and he guaranteed they would be there on Tuesday. Boooo
West Marine!) We spent the rest of Tuesday installing the new throttle and
shifter cables, which went about as well as you can expect for a boat
project.
This morning we bid farewell to Dowry Creek Marina and spent 11 hours
motoring up the ICW in hot weather with light winds. Before sunset tonight
we dropped the anchor just north of the Albemarle Sound near Broad Creek in
the North River. Thankfully there’s a light breeze helping us keep cool as
we seek shelter from the bugs inside the boat. We’re at statute mile 62 for
those familiar with the Virginia Cut of the ICW, 10 miles south of Coinjock,
NC.
Tomorrow we’re going to try to clear the numerous bridges in Norfolk and
exit into the Chesapeake Bay before dark tomorrow night. From there we’ll
continue north through the night, and Friday night we hope to visit good
friends near Annapolis. If all goes as planned, we should be hanging on the
hook in the Bohemia River on Saturday night, in time for Jimmy Buffett’s
live concert on Radio Margaritaville.
If you’re on the Bo, swing on by, we’ll be the boat with the ICW moustache!
Who were your good friends near Annapolis? Did you meet up with them after us on Friday?
We didn’t take any pictures with you guys, I guess I’ll have to pull something off a stock image website. Be right back.
