Those of you following our Spot track yesterday might be wondering what we
were doing as we ping-pong’ed around the Inner Harbor of Boston for most of
the afternoon? We were enjoying a great harbor cruise with our friend Ed who
joined us for an afternoon sail. Ed pointed out sights in the city as Joint
Venture tacked back and forth in light air. We had a great time and we’re
very glad that Ed could join us for some sailing on this warm Boston
afternoon.
Earlier in the day we had taken the subway out to the Sam Adams Brewery for
one of their tours. They take you through the various stages of brewing,
allowing you to taste various barleys, smell the hops, and eventually sample
the beers. We even saw the guy with the long beard from the commercials (no
Jim Koch sightings.) I was a little disappointed that they don’t actually
brew production beers at that brewery, it’s strictly for new beer
development and some smaller specialty brews. In the tasting room they had
us rate two beers they were developing, and then we sampled Boston Lager and
Octoberfest.
After the brewery we jumped back on the “T” and got off at Chinatown where
we grabbed an excellent sandwich and a freshly baked bun. From there we
walked back to Rowe’s Wharf where we met up with Ed for our afternoon
cruise.
Our sail was a fabulous ending to our short time in Boston, we sailed past
some of the sights that we had seen from land, the Old North Church, the USS
Constitution, and Ed pointed out where the Great Brink’s Robbery took place.
After we said goodbye to Ed at the dock, we headed back out the Boston
Harbor Islands National Park to anchor for the night.
Today we’re hanging out on the hook preparing to jump to Maine tomorrow.
After our whirlwind four days in Boston, we needed some time to get things
ready for our overnight voyage, and to let our bodies rest from all the
sight-seeing.
